Parley for the Oceans

Tuesday, April 19th, time TBD: open to the public.

Parsons School of Design hosts a talk by Parley for the Oceans. Parley addresses major threats towards our oceans, with the belief that power for change lies in the hands of the consumer when given a choice, and that the power to shape consumer mindsets lies in the hands of creative industries.

Green Jobs and Social Justice: Student and Alumni Networking Event: Earth Week 2016

This event will give New School students and alumni an opportunity to network with employers in the green jobs sector – jobs that enhance environmental sustainability, social- and economic justice.

Drop by to see students from the School of Constructed Environments reclaim a portion of NYC’s streets for much-needed public space and develop an attractive setting for eating, reading, working, meeting a friend, and taking a rest.

Pop Up Print Shop: “You Are Here”

Wednesday, April 20th, 2:00pm – 6:00pm: open to the public

“You Are Here” was a student show in Parsons Paris in response to the COP21 Conference. Now on view at Parsons in New York City, visitors can use the Riso Machine to create prints featuring environmental slogans.

The Irresistible Resistance

The New School’s Tishman Environment and Design Center celebrates the idea that artists and young people are the very heart of the struggle for resistance and resilience and that “artists make resistance irresistible.”

New School Clothing Swap

Friday, April 22nd, 1:00pm – 3:00pm:

New School students combine style with social consciousness through a clothing swap. Exchanging unwanted garments instead of simply throwing them away breaks the cycle of textile waste, and creates an opportunity to learn about alternative ways to consume. All unswapped items will be delivered to GrowNYC’s Textile Recycling program.

Sustainapalooza III

Saturday, April 23rd, 10:30am:

Sustainapalooza is an annual event for New School students engaged in efforts to facilitate enhanced urban resiliency and sustainability. This year’s theme is sustainable consumption. 

Slow Death: Black Health and Environmental Justice

Tuesday, April 26th, 6:00pm: open to the public

Environmental justice and health equity are highly connected issues that disproportionately impact communities of color.  The panel will explore racial justice, equity, and diversity through the lens of black social movements.
