DrErinMcCandless (1)A new publication is out: “Tackling and Preventing Ebola while Building Peace and Societal Resilience,” co-authored by Dr. McCandless, who also oversaw the research of this five-country case study by civil society actors in Liberia, Sierra Leone, Guinea, and Nigeria.

The study examines the recent Ebola crisis, reflecting on the impacts and priorities for recovery and future crisis prevention, with a peacebuilding lens.

Case studies were written by members of the Civil Society Platform on Peacebuidling and Statebuilding (CSPPS), the civil society entry point into the International Dialogue on Peacebuilding and Statebuilding (IDPS)/ New Deal process, where Dr. McCandless sits as a political representative on behalf of civil society, and an Executive Committee member, respectively.

The reports findings and recommendations are presently feeding into critical policy developments and planning of both external actors, the Mano River Union and national Ebola strategy plans, as IDPS members work to ensure that a New Deal lens is brought to the Ebola response and prevention strategies. In sum, this means that the peacebuilding and statebuilding implications of these strategies are reflected upon and accounted for.
