Professor of International Affairs, Sakiko Fukuda-Parr, was recently appointed to The Independent Panel on Global Governance for Health. The panel is a collaborative initiative between the University of Oslo and The Lancet and aims to provide evidence, based on high quality, independent research and analysis, which can be used to inform and impact on political processes that influence global health. Members of the Panel are independent experts within the areas of global governance, trade, law and development.
About Professor Fukuda-Parr: She has worked on a broad range of issue related to global poverty and development from human rights and capabilities approaches. Her current research focuses on global goals, food security, global governance. She was the lead author and director of the UNDP Development Reports 1995-2004. She serves as Vice Chair of the UN Committee for Development Policy and on boards of several NGOs that advocate human rights and technology for development. She also served as a member of The Lancet – University of Oslo Commission on Global Governance for Health. Her recent publications include Feminist and Critical Perspectives on the Financial and Economic Crisis (with J. Heinz and S. Seguino), and The Power of Numbers: A Critical Review of Millennium Development Goal Targets for Human Development and Human Rights (with Alicia Yamin and Joshua Greenstein).
