Milano students who took  Professor Nerina Penzhorn’s Fall 2013 course Producing Short Form Documentaries learned how to create compelling, short documentaries on various subjects of their choosing. A few Milano students’ documentaries and brief descriptions can be viewed below:

Picture Freedom by Alice Obar

Italian contemporary artist Gianluca Vassallo is on a mission in New York City to challenge the meaning of the word “freedom.” This short documentary is just a glimpse into his “Free Portrait” project: a collective image of New York in striking, human detail.

Fashion is a Country by Oluwatoni Akindele

Creative Director of Post-Imperial, Niyi Okuboyejo describes his coup against the regime of Fashion. Collection IV features products treated in ‘adire’ – an old and rare dying technique developed by the Yorubas in the Southwest region of Nigeria.

The Housing Circus by Laura Milton

Theatre of the Oppressed NYC works with local communities to create and tour original, interactive plays inspired by real-life struggles, in order to engage peers in theatrical problem-solving and incite transformative action. This film follows some of the actors as they create ‘‘The Housing Circus,’ a performance based on their own life experiences.
