About the speakers:
Mani Mostofi is the Director of Impact Iran, a human rights advocacy coalition. Prior to this position, he worked in support of the UN Special Rapporteur on human rights in Iran through the Human Rights in Iran Unit at CUNY-Brooklyn College. Mostofi has also been researcher at the International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran and Human Rights Watch, where he focused on migrant labor issues in Bahrain. As a researcher, Mostofi has explored a broad set of issues including due process rights, LGBTQI rights, Internet freedom, the impact of sanctions, and religious freedom in Iran. Mostofi holds a master’s degree in Middle Eastern Studies from the University or Texas at Austin and a Juris Doctorate from Fordham University School of Law.
D. Parvaz is a senior producer for the Human Rights Section at Al Jazeera America in New York City. She previously worked for Al Jazeera English for four years. In 2011, she was sent to Syria to cover the uprising and went “missing” for nearly three weeks. During that time, she was held in one of Syria’s secret torture centers for three days before being sent to Evin prison in Iran for over two weeks. She has covered politics and human rights issues in Egypt, Libya, Afghanistan and Iran, as well as reporting on constitutional issues in the United States. Parvaz was born in Iran and is a citizen of Iran, the US and Canada.
